21 Year Old Joe Cada wins the World Series of Poker Main Event — The Best Online Casino News - TheBestCasinoGuide.com
Las Vegas – Early Tuesday morning in Las Vegas, 21 year old Joe Cada won the 2009 WSOP main event and became the youngest winner in the history of the World Series of Poker. Cada defeated Darvin Moon in heads-up play to win $8,547,042. Moon won $5,182,092 for finishing second in the tournament.
Heads up play for the final two started Monday night at the Rio Casino in Las Vegas with Cada leading Moon in chips by 135,950,00-58,850,000. However, for most of the evening, it was Moon who kept the pressure on Cada. As Moon reduced Cada’s chip lead by half it was clear that it was anyones tournament to win. Playing aggressively all night, Moon was able to continue applying pressure on Cada until Cada was down to 54 million chips.
With Cada’s chip lead dwindling, he was able to put on the brakes and regain control of play. In one dramatic hand, Cada won with 2 pair as Moon just missed a straight and the chip lead turned in Cada’s favor at 108 million to 86.5 million. Eight hands later, Cada took the final hand to become the tournament’s youngest winner ever replacing 2008 Main Event champion Peter Eastgate as the previous youngest champion at 22 years old.
"Darvin Moon played great," Cada said. "He really put me in some tough spots early on and I got off to a bad start. Before I knew it I was playing from behind again. But I was able to stay composed, battle back and here I am. It’s an incredible feeling."
