Are they to be forgiven for political acts that if not openly corrupt, have contributed in a major way to the economic crisis we are all facing?

First of all, let us take some examples. We have Rep. Barney Franks (Democrat, NY) in a tight race for his powerful House seat. Franks is an outspoken supporter of legal online gambling and has been the major sponsor of a sweeping piece of legislation to restore online gambling to legal status. While this is a splendid goal, does it excuse his other political actions? Franks is not new to controversy. He has skeletons going back to accusation of strange involvement with gay prostitution and other twadry behaviors. More damning is his unwavering support for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that has lead to the total collapse of the U.S. housing market by allowing hundreds of thousands of questionable mortgages to be forced on Banks and other institutional lenders under the Community Reinvestment Act. To make matters even worse, Franks is pushing hard to force the Community Reinvestment Act on all financial institutions including credit card companies. Under this proposed legislation, it would not just be bad mortgages that are pushed through the Community Reinvestment Act but every imaginable type of loan and credit. Going on past performance alone, expanding the Community Reinvestment Act in this way to give more credit to people who are wholly unable to repay it, is a prescription for financial suicide. Therefore, we must ask, how do we support Barney Franks, just because he sides with the cause of legal online gambling? His major policies are destructive to our nation and he has a rather questionable record on ethics. All in all, he is not deserving of the support of any but the mindless left wing of the Democratic party.

Another candidate on the Pokerpac endorsement list is Rep. Alan Grayson (Democrat, Florida) who is the author of some of the most outlandish and foul political discourse in the history of the U.S. House of Representatives. He is famous for accusing Republicans of wanting to kill Americans because they would not support Obama’s forced health insurance bill. In September 2009, during the debates leading to the passage of the Affordable Health Care for America Act by the House in November, Grayson quipped during a speech that, “The Republican health care plan is this: ‘Don’t get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly.” Foul and dishonest to the max, he has resorted to running commercials calling his opponent in the current election “Taliban Dan”. He came up with this by taking a speech by his opponent and claiming that his opponent was saying the exact opposite of what was really said. FactCheck reported that Grayson used edited video to make Webster appear to be saying the opposite of what he really said. The Orlando Sentinel stated Grayson took Webster’s comments out of context and twisted the meaning of his words. Dozens of major newspapers and political commentators in the USA has condemned Grayson’s behavior but he refuses to withdraw this offensive commercial full of utter lies. On the subject of anyone who dares to disagree with his extreme progressive, left wing policies, Grayson is no less abusive. During an appearance on The Stephanie Miller Show on September 2, 2010, Grayson referred to people attending Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally the previous weekend by saying “These are people who were wearing sheets over their heads 25 years ago.” This is a man who believes that anyone who dares to disagree with him is a racist Klan member but he support legal online gambling. Does he deserve a pass on his fanaticism and dishonest, vile opinions of opponents because he supports legal online gambling.

We could list many others of the candidates that Pokerpac has endorsed are involved in ongoing questions about corruption in office and support for one pork laden bill after the other. We can list many endorsed candidates who support far left progressive ideology. Many of them are constantly at the forefront of name calling and race baiting. Yet they are all in favor of legal online gambling. It reaches into every aspect of our nation. Our freedoms, our work force, banking, currency and industry. Legal online gambling is capable of being regulated into a massively productive industry that will employ thousands and thousands of Americans and generate billions in tax revenues and that is what really matters. Support the issues without compromising on all your other political beliefs. Stress to potential candidates the overall value of legal online gambling to our nation and go beyond politics as usual. Advocate that legal online gambling is better for all Americans because it will allow our nation to share in what is potentially a multi-trillion dollar, worldwide industry. Under Obama we have already been told that we will have to depend on foreign nations to leave low earth orbit to reach the International Space Station, giving up our long held dominance in space flight. Are we also willing to give away an entire industry to the rest of the world and once again harm our citizens while limiting our economic development. These are the real issues that matter and this is what voters who support legal online gambling need to start to advocate.

On January 16, 2007, the Department of Justice announced that it was charging two founders of Neteller, Stephen Lawrence and John Lefebvre, with laundering billions of dollars of Internet gambling proceeds. Neteller is a company that was founded in Canada, a sovereign country, in 1999. Neteller later moved to the Isle of Man, and is publicly traded in the United Kingdom. Lawrence and Lefebvre were both charged with conspiring to transfer funds with the intent to promote illegal gambling. If convicted, both defendants face a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment even though they are no longer even associated with Neteller. They were indicted under a law, The Unlawful Internet Gambling and Enforcement Act (UIGEA), that was attached as an amendment to the Safe Ports act. The Safe Ports Act had nothing to do with Internet Gambling. There was no debate on the bill and as usual, it was not even read before it was passed with the urging of the Bush Administration. To tie this travesty of justice up in one neat bow, at the time of the Neteller indictments, the law had not even taken effect. Let’s repeat that. The U.S. DOJ was so hot to lash out and crush internet gambling they actually indicted these two men under a new law that wasn’t even in effect at the time of their being indicted.

What is the purpose of such arbitrary and malicious behavior on the part of the U.S. Government. One can make guesses or follow the rhetoric from those who support the ban on legal online gambling. They claim to be protecting our children and citizens from the horrors of gambling addiction even though studies have shown the online gamblers behave more responsibly than those who gamble in the hundreds of legal land based casinos in the U.S. They claim to be protecting us from the crimes of money laundering and from organized crime even though banning internet gambling drives over 100 billion dollars a year offshore. Not to mention, as experience has taught us, banning something creates more crime. Take the example of Liquor prohibition in the 1920’s. We can thank that brilliant move for the foundation of the Mafia in America. Banning Internet Gambling will not stop gambling. The money will simply go offshore or into the hands of bookies like it did before internet gambling.

The move to make Internet Gambling illegal has made the United States into a pariah in other civilized nations. The tiny island nation of Antigua, home to many Internet gambling companies, sued in the World Trade Organization court, challenging the U.S. ban on gambling ads, saying it violated free trade agreements. The U.S. lost the case, lost all its appeals and then chose to try to ignore its lack of compliance to its legal treaties. After losing the WTO case, the U.S. had three choices: (1) Specifically legalize online gambling, (2) pay huge compensation to its trading partners, or (3) give them huge concessions. Antigua finally received 21 million of the 3.4 billion in losses it had claimed and was awarded the right to suspend copyright on American movies and music. One might ask why the U.S. Government is willing to harm 2 of the major entertainment industries in the U.S. rather than allow all the benefits of controlled, taxed and regulated internet gambling.

What this all comes down to is one more attempt by the United States to limit individual rights and limit our freedoms while supporting its cronies in big business. This is one more attempt by the current party in power, which is in reality no different than the Bush Administration, to impose its concept of big government on the people of the United States. The vast majority of our citizens support the right to gamble online while the current administration moves silently and inexorably towards having an Internet Kill Switch. Soon not only will online gambling still be illegal but the President of the United States will be able to use an executive order to shut down the entire internet and congress will not be able to intervene for four months. Your freedoms are disappearing in leaps and bounds and it is up to every one of us who supports legal internet gambling and basic human freedoms to vote these madmen out of office, in November, 2010, before it is too late. It is no co-incidence that Representative Franks bill to re-legalize internet gambling has languished for 2 years in Congress without any hearings or a vote. Our current government would rather regulate our behavior and limit our rights than create jobs and increase tax revenues by growing an industry. It is time to remove these lunatics from office with our votes in November.
